EPOXYPLAST 3D is a low viscosity and highly transparent epoxy resin with excellent UV resistance for a wide range of applications such as highly transparent glass or coloured artistic and decorative applications. From smaller dips and coasters to very large transparent encapsulations such as river tables or large transparent encapsulations. EPOXYPLAST 3D is characterized by its excellent clarity, UV stability, excellent self-ventilation and easy handling.

Application:

EPOXYPLAST 3D is weighed exactly in a blend ratio of 2:1 in weight in a clean container. A scale and two mixing cups are required to allow for precise weighing and mixing. Please do not mix in volume under any circumstances, as this may result in incorrect results. First mix components A and B at a maximum of 300 rpm for about three to four minutes. The A-B mixture is then transferred to a new clean container and mixed again for three to four minutes. Scrape some of the resin off the edges of the old container and drain it into the new one. This process is important to obtain the most homogeneous mixture possible. Important note: Mixing container A (resin) and B (hardener) will result in a complete hardening failure and an incorrect result accordingly. If your resin (component A) is milky, lumpy or solid, it is a crystallization. This process occurs in the cold and is reversibly equalized by a double boiler (50-70 C). Keep the resin closed at room temperature and avoid sudden drops in temperature, high humidity and direct sunlight for a long time. Application guide: Always prepare porous or absorbent supports (e.g. Concrete, wood) with EPOXYPLAST 3D B20, EPOXYPLAST 100 P or HoneyResin® to avoid the formation of bubbles due to air rising from the support. It is recommended to use a fast-drying system such as EPOXYPLAST 100 P or HoneyResin® for primer. Note that the maximum casting height depends on the hardener used in the EPOXYPLAST 3D system. Information on the maximum casting height depending on the hardener used and the ambient temperature can be found in our manuals or technical sheets on www.dipon.de. Important note: The recommended maximum casting height for the EPOXYPLAST 3D hardener – EPOXYPLAST 3D B20 is two centimetres, for the five-centimetre EPOXYPLAST 3D B50 hardener. Depending on the volume, depending on the ambient temperature, it is possible to obtain a higher stacking up to 35 cm in a single piece with the EPOXYPLAST 3D B50 hardener (ambient temperature 15 degrees, diameter 8-12 cm). Tips and tricks against streaks (carbamate formation) on epoxy resin surfaces:

An intermittent phenomenon is the formation of streaks on the surface of the moulded part with a low stacking height. We show why they develop and how they can be prevented.

Origin: Amine-based hardeners such as the B20 JewelCast are waterproof (hygroscopic). As soon as these react with atmospheric moisture, by-products form from ammonium carbamate (carbamate/hydrate layer). This is manifested by whitening and visually perceptible water stains. Products with a longer potted life (e.g., thick-coated resins) are much more sensitive to the formation of carbamates (amine blush/efflorescence), as the time required for gelling takes longer. This increases the risk of efflorescence due to interactions with air moisture in conjunction with amine-based hardeners. The smaller the amount mixed, the lower the exothermity and therefore the greater the risk. EpoxyPlast 3D B20 JewelCast has an excellent degasser and also excellent UV resistance with a casting height of 20 mm. This casting height can only be reached by a corresponding reactivity of the hardener in order to avoid an exothermic reaction too “violent”. For example, it is not possible to remove a 50 mm moulded part cleanly and without bubbles in a few hours. This only works with a low-responsive hardener that controls the entire hardening process. Various resins are very reactive, such as HoneyResin, which is formulated up to a casting height of 6 mm. Due to high reactivity, heat builds up rapidly during the exotherm, so that surface damage, for example due to an amine abnormality, can hardly occur. However, unlike the B20 JewelCast, it is not possible to sink special moulds with a higher casting height. But the B20 JewelCast can also be used for the upper layers – without Amine Blush. We’ll show you how to proceed in the next steps.

What to do about Schlieren resp. To avoid efflorescence? With the following instructions, the streaks belong to the past:

  • Step 1:

    Mix properly (3-4 min. – Repot – mix again 3-4 min.)

  • Step 2:

    Launch of exothermic reaction: let resin in the container after mixing. This process is also called ‘staging’ or ‘multi-stage hardening’. It is recommended to let the mixed, repotted and remixed medium rest until it reaches at least 35 degrees, ideally 37 degrees Celsius on the surface (measured with a laser thermometer).

  • Step 3 In: The final repotting. Ideally, the casting height is at least 3 mm thick. However, this process also works with a 1 mm join. Depending on the ambient temperature, it may be necessary to allow the resin to heat up to about 40 degrees in a controlled manner.
  • Please make sure the resin does not heat up too much, as in this case it may start to boil due to the very high temperature.
  • Note: Pay attention to temperature and humidity fluctuations., Ideal humidity is 40-60%, but it can also be increased by increasing exothermity. Another tip: a controlled hardening at well above 23 degrees Celsius is preferable to a hardening at low temperature
  • Please note that these instructions apply to joining up to about 3.5 – 4 mm (0.35 – 0.4 cm) . As a general rule, the exothermic curve of about 4 mm is sufficient to prevent flowering. With a high ambient temperature and a maximum potting height of 20 mm (e.g. B20 JewelCast), a strong exothermia can occur, which can cause cracking or even boiling of the resin. Basically, the shorter the pot life, the faster the freezing time and the lower the maximum casting height.

  • Recommended casting amount (20 C): 0.1 cm – 2 cm (1 – 20 mm)
  • Unmouldable after (20 C): about 16 to 24 hours.

  • Casting thickness (20 C): 0.1 cm – 2 cm (1 – 20 mm)
  • Removal time (20 C): about 16 to 24 hours.
